Newspaper Article On Miss Chevius

The Metro newspaper in Vancouver reported on SuperGirl Miss Chevius in their June 20th edition.

Brains and brawn in female wrestling

Almost everyone fantasizes about roughing up their coworkers, but one Delta woman gets to do just that several times a week.

Miss Chevius' job is a little more unusual and a lot more aggressive than the standard nine-to-five office gig. As a wrestler with the Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling league, she slams her opponents into the ropes, onto the mat and out of the ring.

But she said there's more to the sport than just being a well-conditioned athlete.

"Some of it is performance, some of it is physical skill, but you have to have a smart business mind as well. You really need to be dedicated to all aspects of the sport to really make some sort of a name and living for yourself," she said this week.

She got into wrestling after enrolling in the ECCW's House of Pain, a wrestling school put on by the league.

She decided to enroll because she "wanted to be the one in the ring entertaining the fans," rather than just being a fan.

After a demanding year spent in wrestling, she was ready to take and dole out punishment in front of an audience.

"Training to be a wrestler, whether you are male or female, is tough. A lot of people don't get that what we do out there is all physical -- even doing the simplest things could get us hurt.

"Add being a woman on top of that, makes it even harder," she said.

But Chevius encourages anyone, especially young women, to try the sport out for themselves.

"For women or for anyone who wants to try wrestling, I say go for it. That's all I did, and I found out I had what it takes."

RESULTS: Rebecca Knox becomes the first SuperGirls champion!

Congratulations are in order for NWA Ireland's Rebecca Knox, who on June 24th defeated a very tough Miss Chevius at ECCW's event in Surrey, BC to become the first-ever SuperGirls champion!

During her backstage celebration of her championship victory, Knox laid out an open challenge to not only any other SuperGirls to take her championship, but a challenge directly toward NWA World women's champion Lexie Fyfe!

Knox will not have long to celebrate - she will have a number of SuperGirls after her newly won championship, from Miss Chevius to Cheerleader Melissa to Charlotte Webb, and the list continues to grow! We will find out soon if Knox has what it takes to keep the SuperGirls championship belt wrapped around her waist!

More information on the situation will be upcoming!
